Compare each stock with its own usual activity
Each source compares the selected window with the median of up to seven preceding, non-overlapping windows of the same length. The current window never enters its own baseline. At least three complete prior windows are required.
Keep small samples in perspective
Positive scores need at least 10 weighted items now and 20 across prior windows. Reddit and Hacker News comments count 0.25; posts count 1. Repeated replies by the same author in one discussion contribute once per UTC hour, with at most 20 comment contributions per discussion per hour.
Normal or below-normal activity scores 0 when enough history is available. Low evidence is shown as N/A. Missing, stale, or incompatible windows are excluded. Capped requests contribute only independently verified complete intervals; gaps never become zeros. An interrupted established source pauses the headline score until coverage recovers.
Look for support across sources
Source scores measure the size and variability of a rise. Reddit and Bluesky have weight 1; news and Hacker News have weight 0.5. Scores above 50 require a source anomaly score of at least 10 on two platforms.
The “vs. usual” value compares weighted activity across the same eligible sources. Mentions are raw sampled items and can include replies that contribute no additional score. A + indicates an incomplete count.
Know what the data covers
Reddit samples 24 investing and stock communities. Bluesky uses cashtag search; Hacker News uses company and ticker search. News is sampled from Finnhub or its GDELT fallback. Date-bounded backfill can seed matching baselines; Reddit builds from verified live coverage. No paid source has been enabled.
SEC filings, Wikipedia page views, and optional delayed price/volume history provide separate context, with availability and configuration limits disclosed in each stock’s details. Quote changes compare with previous close. These additional factors do not affect the score yet. This is an attention indicator, not sentiment, a price forecast, or a calibrated probability.
